WHAT IS STAGE V?
The European Union’s emission standards, Stage V, have been in effect since 2019 for non-road diesel engines. This includes machinery used in construction, agriculture, and generators, all under the current standards’ umbrella. The Stage V emission regulations aim to continue the journey towards reducing particulate and NOx emissions.
For the first time, there are limitations on particulate emissions, driving the need to implement diesel particulate filters. The Stage V requirements govern the overall mass of particulate matter in exhaust gases and the quantity of particles per unit of energy produced. This legislation is set to revolutionise the industry by introducing cleaner, quieter, and more efficient power solutions.
MEMS & STAGE V: PARTNERS IN EMISSION COMPLIANCE
In line with MEMS’ commitment to a more sustainable future, MEMS has invested an initial £4 million in the MEMS Stage V fleet. As a result, MEMS Stage V reduce noise levels, boasting noise perception that is one-fifth lower than comparable products. This becomes particularly crucial as the excessive noise produced by temporary generators becomes less acceptable in urban settings.
The MEMS Stage V products are also equipped with an intelligent Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system that effectively reduces particulate emissions into the atmosphere. The DPF system plays a vital role in emission reduction by capturing soot and other harmful pollutants, preventing their release into the air. Furthermore, certain Stage V engines feature a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), a type of catalytic converter that further diminishes emissions by transforming harmful gases into less-toxic compounds. The outcome is clean, efficient power generation with minimised noise and air pollution.
